| 1 | cup | flour | | 3/4 | cup | white sugar | | 2 | tablespoon | cocoa | | 2 | teaspoon | baking powder | | 1/4 | teaspoon | salt | | 1/2 | cup | milk | | 2 | tablespoons | shortening, melted | | 1 | cup | nuts, optional | | 1/4 | cup | cocoa | | 1 | cup | brown sugar | | 1 3/4 | cups | hot water |
| directions | Mix flour, white sugar, 2 tablespoons cocoa, baking powder, and salt. Blend in milk, shortening, and nuts. Pour into ungreased 9x9 pan. Stir together brown sugar and 1/4 cup cocoa. Sprinkle over batter. Pour hot water over all. DO NOT STIR!!!
Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
You might be worried about this going in the oven, but when it comes out, there "magically" will be chocolate pudding on the bottom with cake on top.
Best when served warm and fresh from the oven, especially with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. |
