| 2 | tablespoons | olive oil | | 2 | tablespoons | dry onion | | 1/2 | teaspoon | garlic | | 12 | ounces | canned tomato paste | | 14 | ounces | canned diced tomatoes | | 12 | ounces | water | | 1 1/2 | teaspoons | Italian Seasoning | | 1 | tablespoon | sugar | | 1 | teaspoon | salt | | 1/2 | pound | ground beef (optional) | | 4 | ounces | canned mushrooms (optional) |
| directions | Heat oil in 2 quart saucepan. Add the dried onion and garlic. Stir the onion and garlic around in the oil for about 30 seconds, or until they start to smell good. Add the tomato paste, diced tomatoes, and the water (you can use one of the tomato can(s) to measure the water). Stir it until the sauce is smooth (except for the tomato chunks) and thick. Add the Italian seasoning, sugar and salt. Simmer for 5-10 minutes, or until you are ready to eat it.
Many times I make it without the ground beef and mushrooms when I want a marinara. Other times we want a hearty sauce for spaghetti. I love how cheap and easy this sauce is to make. I don't have to buy those jars of spaghetti sauce anymore! |
